“The Turtle Doves”

I know not why
the turtle doves cry
when I last heard laughter
so shortly after
the morn.

It troubles me much
the turbulence, such
a distressing sound
from each vocal mound
sweetly borne from their throats.
The injustice, it floats
to my eyes.

And the message, it hovers.
Like a shroud, it still covers
the lies.
